Dear friends of the "Tanzfestival Bielefeld"!

Everyone is looking forward to the summer, and especially everyone in Bielefeld, because it means: “Tanzfestival”! Whoever enjoys improving their dance skills with the help of professional instructors and instructresses, whoever is curious to try out new dance styles is, again, very welcome to participate in the wide range of our workshop program.

The passion of movement and the need to express our innermost self with physical means can be met in the most diverse courses. The category “Academic” invites you to discover quite a few styles from ballet to contemporary and jazz dance. Fans of international dance styles will be satisfied, too: in the category “World”, you can immerge into the African as well as the oriental (and if you want, even into the South American) dance culture. Of course, there will also be a very rich program of the urban dance scene, as usual.

The variety of dance cultures at the “Tanzfestival Bielefeld” always meets the diversity of the participants’ skills and knowledge. Whether amateur or pro, there’s a course for everyone, and what is more: thanks to the inclusive workshop of Gerda König and Gitta Roser, we were able to implement our claim that the dance festival is actually there for everybody. The Mixed Abled Workshop is open to participants with or without physical and mental particularities. It is going to take place as a cooperation with the Bewegungs- und Sporttherapeutischer Dienst BSD (Therapeutic Movement and Sports Service) and the Freizeit- und Kulturzentrum (leisure and cultural centre) Neue Schmiede of the v. Bodelschwinghschen Stiftungen Bethel.

It is also thanks to the “Tanzfestival” that the Flamenco will return to Bielefeld. We are honoured to welcome our new instructress Belén Cabanes, an internationally successful flamenco dancer who excels in the vivacious play of the castanets. Her musical accompanist, the talented musician Andreas Maria Germek, is a perfect match for her master level. Germek is a virtuoso of the Spanish Guitar who reaches undreamt-of levels of playing technique. Furthermore, we are happy to introduce Nadine Gerspacher as instructress, an experienced teacher and choreographer who has notched up great successes with her own dance company and dance productions. She will now pass on her creativity and professional approach in workshops of the category “Contemporary”.

All workshop participants will benefit from reduced rates for tickets to the accompanying performance program. If you have any questions regarding workshops or instructors and instructresses, our competent festival office staff and the artistic directors Ulla and Tchekpo Dan Agbetou are happy to help with advice.

I would like to give our special thanks to the sponsors of ”kulturextra” - Carolinen, BGW, Sparkasse Bielefeld, Stadtwerke Bielefeld, Böllhoff, dm and Radeberger - without whom a festival of this scope and quality could not be realized in Bielefeld.

A very heartfelt thank you goes to our partners Neue Westfälische, Radio Bielefeld, and the Arcadia Hotel Bielefeld.

The regional arts aid package "Tanz OWL 2020" of the state of NRW is crucial for keeping up the quality of our festival.

I hope you’ll have a lot of fun in your workshops, best regards,

Brigitte Brand
(Kulturamtsleiterin)
