Belén Cabanes

Flamenco
Spain

The flamenco dancer and castanet virtuoso Belén Cabanes is from Vilanova i La Geltrú, Barcelona. She studied dance with the Flamenco professors Rosa García and Enrique Burgos as well as at the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza de Madrid where she was awarded with the title “bailarina Española”. Additionally, she studied the “Método de Castañuelas” by Emma Maleras. Our very appreciated instructor Juan Carlos Lérida counts among her admirers.

This summer, Belén Cabanes will pass on her knowledge in Bielefeld. The focus of her course, level I, will be the tango rhythm, i.e. the four-four time where the accents are on the first and third beat. For an introduction to playing the castanets you will have to visit level II where you will also learn the Siguiriyas, a specific form of Flamenco with a twelve-four time and a characteristic accentuation scheme. Please bring castanets for level II.
