Chiang-Mei Wang

Tai-Chi Dao-Yin
Taiwan/Germany

For over ten years, Chiang-Mei Wang was a solo dancer at the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, Asia’s leading modern dance company. During that time, she also worked intensely with master Wei Shong in Taiwan and received her official tai-chi dao-yin teaching license in 2002. Ever since, she has been teaching this technique in Europe.

Tai-chi dao-yin combines the core elements of the traditional movement methods qi gong and tai chi. Developed by master Hsiung Wei in Taiwan, tai-chi dao-yin reduces the formal expression to a minimum and aims at harmonising our inner body energy (called “chi” in Chinese) and making it flow. According to Chinese tradition, the harmonious cycle of the body energies is the elementary basis of physical and psychological well-being. Tai-chi dao-yin consists of a sequence of 12 exercises: spiral, circular or wave-like spreading movements. They will stretch muscles, tendons and joints, open inner space, dissolve blockages and lead to deep relaxation. Movement and respiration are harmonised through these simple exercises that follow the natural energy flow. Tai-chi dao-yin is like an inner massage and lays the foundations of a natural energy flow.

The aim is to develop the energy for any kind of movement, whether dance, sports or just health consciousness, out of your own body centre. Chiang-Mei Wang offers new insights to the body’s potential for Europeans. She helps to cross borders and barriers.
