Wayne Barbaste

Modern Jazz

Wayne Barbaste is a choreographer and teacher out of passion! Having studied at the Alvin-Ailey-School in New York, he danced for four years in the “Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble”. Hailing originally from Trinidad and Tobago, he began his dancing career in 1977 on the African continent and the Caribbean. In 1985, he made France his home. Parallel to his job as the artistic director and choreographer of the “Compagnie Calabash”, he is a regular guest instructor in the United States (Lincoln Center Institute, Oklahoma Ballet) and in Europe (a.o. Stage International Voiron, Paris, Milan, Frankfurt).

In his classes, Wayne Barbaste defines Modern Jazz innovatively and from a consequently contemporary perspective, yet without disowning tradition.
